We are The Flower Paddock at White Thistle Farm

Our goal is to provide our friends and neighbors with high quality, locally grown and thoughtfully arranged florals.

Our Story

Welcome! We are Michele and Charlie May, the owners of The Flower Paddock at White Thistle Farm in Greenfield Center, New York. In 2016, we fell in love with and purchased the 7 acre piece of pasture land that would become White Thistle Farm, and the future home of our cut flower venture, The Flower Paddock (TFP).

At that time, the only things present on the land were a family of deer, loads of wild blueberries, and whole lot of rocks (If you are one of our Greenfield neighbors, you know exactly what we are talking about!). A great deal has changed here since then – a home was created in the field, children grew into adults, retired racehorses were adopted, jobs turned into retirements – and, we decided to start growing flowers! We have always grown annual and perennial flowers on the farm to share with family and friends, but this is our first year growing an expanded selection of cut flower varieties to offer to our local community at our stand. The learning curve is steep, but we are having a blast!

On the farm, we grow more than 40 different kinds of annual cut flowers – including Snapdragons, Cosmos, Stock, Sunflowers, Zinnias and Dahlias - and 18 perennials; not to mention the multiple varieties of Tulip, Amaryllis and Narcissus bulbs we force for the holidays! Picking family favorites between all those amazing flowers is near impossible. But, if we had to choose, we would definitely lean toward the lilacs and peonies, every time. They just signal to us that “the growing season is here!” In an effort to spread more of that “winter’s over” joy, we have been working hard this year to expand our early spring offerings. This season, we planted several new varieties of lilac. And, later this fall there are plans to install a new peony garden behind the greenhouse, adding eleven additional varieties to our roster. It should be a great spring 2024!

The best way to keep track of our changing seasonal flower stock and activities on the farm is to follow us on Facebook and Instagram. We will also send out short emails to all members of The Flower Paddock mailing list detailing what we have available each week. Be sure to sign-up and keep in touch.

Hope to see you soon at The Flower Paddock!
